Thunder Over Louisville and the Pegasus Parade

I have to be honest and say that April and May are the best months of the year to live in Louisville. My family called me the other day and said it was snowing while it is 70-80 degrees here. I am really going to miss the weather! Anyway in April/May there are so many fun things going on all centered around the Derby. There is a fireworks show, airshow, boat races, ballooon races, mini-marathon and parades. This was the first year we have actually been to the parade and it was soooooo much fun. Austin really loved it. Here are my two handsome men checking out the scene.

I thought this was hilarious. Why have I not thought to strap a large ball to my behind before?? It would make for a great costume and then you could sit on it when you get tired. I think I have Halloween covered for next year thanks to this genius.

This is a large balloon horse of Secretariat. Austin thought it was pretty darn cool.

I dont know if you can tell from the picture but this car is made completely of mirrors. Sweet!

A couple of weekend ago we went to Thunder Over Louisville which is a huge air show and fireworks show. I went down with my friends at about 10am to save a good spot. Wes went down at 6am to start holding the spots for us. Thank You Wes!

Hans did not come down to the waterfront until after Austin's nap so I took some quality time with the girls.....and read a magazine :-) We also went and got some free stuff and Laura managed to heckle someone out of a water bottle. We had a great time! I will miss these girls ALOT!!!

Austin loved the air show...but I think he loved this football even more. Like father, like son.

Here is a great picture Laura took of the sun setting over the river.
As we were walking to the car we ran into this guying walking his turtle downtown (on a very dirty street). I really don't know what to say about this....maybe....only in Lousiville.

3rd Mini Marathon!!

This weekend I had the opportunity to run my 3rd mini marathon. I had decided only about a month ago that I was going to run it and so I was proud of myself for running it 12 minutes faster than last time! I ran it in 2 hours and 5 minutes. I really think that having a child has helped my running. I feel stonger than I ever have before so thanks to Austin :-) The Derby mini marathon is a great one to run because of all the fan support along the whole route. There were people playing music, cheering, handing out oranges and water and running along side us to keep us motivated. Also at about mile 7 you get to run through Churchill Downs and see all the horses. I was nervous because they were calling for a huge rainstorm but it turned out to be a small drizzle for the first half of the race which I quite enjoyed. There were 15,000 people who ran the race this year so I was worried that I would have a hard time finding Hans but I spotted my giant husband right near the finish line and it made me so happy to see my two boys cheering me on. I am so happy that I decided last minute to run the race and it has made me motivated to maybe run some more this summer! Canadian races here I come!

Easter Weekend: Parks and Eggs

To start out: I just LOVE this picture. Everyone always makes a comment about Austin's big blues and I just love how this picture captures them. On friday night we went down to Waterfront Park (which is a park right on the river) with a group of friends and had a picnic to kick off Easter weekend. I love the Spring and being able to be outside all the time.
Austin has decided that it is way more fun to go headfirst down slides.

He thought he should teach his little friend Dominic....
And also his girlfriend Regan how to slide properly.

The next day we went to an Easter egg hunt put on by a local church in the area. This was Austin's first time looking for eggs and he had a really good time....especially when he found a soccer ball Easter egg. I can't believe how many eggs there were!
Enjoying his treats.
Later that day we went to a lunch and Easter egg hunt put on by our friends, the Cluffs. I decided to put this picture in because we dont have too many group shots. Thanks to my friend Heather for getting all the Meyers in one frame :-)

This is what I am going to miss most about Louisville. All the great people!!!

It was such a nice day on Sunday that we headed out to another park near U of L campus. I thougth these swings were pretty interesting.

When Hans got into it I just died with laughter. He looks hilarious in it.
Then we came home for our own family Easter egg hunt. This time Austin knew that all the eggs had candy so he just wanted to sit and open them when he found them.

Hans is always making me laugh! Happy Easter everyone!!!
