Me and my brothers at Churchill Downs

Sad face after our horses lost

All the girls on bowling night

Well this year the big Thanksgiving dinner was at my house. Both of my brothers and their wives came along with my frousin Angie (frousin means cousin + friend). My brother also brought his son Evan who is the sweetest little baby. We had two types of turkeys; a deep fried one and a baked one. Anyone out there who has not tried the deep fried turkey I would highly recommend it! Anyway I am proud to say I made my first Thanksgiving dinner and I am ready for more. Hans and I had a great time with my family here. We went to the horse races at Churchill Downs and Amanda had the best luck winning. We went bowling and I found out that I actually can bowl. Hans found me a 6 pound ball and I got my first strike ever. I guess the balls I have always used have been to heavy. Who knew?? Angie, Kira and I went shopping on black friday and we had a great time. We were out at 6am and we all bought Cricuts. It was a great day. My family loves playing games and so we played a game called "Things in a Box" almost every night. I dont think I have ever laughed that hard . We all had a great time and I am sad that everyone is gone. Please come and visit again soon!!

Fun in November

Kara and I at the snow ball

The red carpet at our YW night amd Bethany looking smokin'

Well it has been a busy couple of weeks. Last night Hans and I went to the annual "Snow Ball" at Louisville Slugger field. It is a black tie event to raise money for the NICU at the hospital I work at. I had a fun time getting all dolled up and ready to go out for a night on the town. We had a wonderful dinner of Steak and Salmon and got to sit with all my work friends. There was dancing an auction and plenty of beautiful Christmas trees. It was great. Last Sunday I had a friend from high school come to visit. We had a good time laughing about old high school memories. We had plenty to talk about. Then this past Wednesday we had our Young Women in Excellence night. We had an "Oscar night" to represent all the girls hard work. My friend, Bethany and I had a great time setting it up (which took 2.5 hours) and then laughed when it was over and the guys tore it down in 2 minutes. We thought the red carpet was a must!! I am excited because this week my family is coming into town for Thanksgiving. My first year cooking a turkey. Wish me luck!!

I have been tagged

Well the day has come that I have been tagged and what a great day it is. So I am supposed to say 6 things that someone might find interesting about me. Then I have to tag 6 friends so they can do the same. So here goes:

1. I love the outdoors. I love hiking, running outside, snowboarding (although this one is difficult in Kentucky with no mountains), swimming and going on walks. On Sundays when I call my family members (I have 6 parents) I go walking while I talk on my cell phone. I usually end up walking 5-6 miles after I have talked to everyone and I usually dont go home till Hans calls and reminds me that it is getting dark out.

2. I like to read signs backwards. Whenever I see a billboard sign I mentally read it backwards. For instance Stop backwards is Pots and Snap backwards is Pans. I like Hans to guess which word I am reading backwards. My personal favorite is Apap Snohj (Papa Johns). I also read magazines from the back to the front. I guess you can say I am a little backwards.

3. I love dancing. When I clean the house I basically have a dance party. I turn the music up full blast (my personal preference right now is Avril Lavigne) and I rock out. It is fun. Growing up I did Irish Dancing (river dance) and I loved it. Then at BYU I was on the Folk Dance team. Cant get enough.

4. I am a sucker for hair products. Anyone who has looked under my bathroom sink can attest to this. I am trying to be better about not buying the latest in “hair design technology” but I cant help myself. It also doesn’t help that I can do my hair straight or curly. I need different hair products for the different styles ya know!

5. I am a lover of traveling. I love to explore. When my brother, cousin and I were in college we decided we would backpack across Europe. It was one of the most eye opening experiences I have ever had. We had a plan in mind of where we wanted to go but sometimes we just got on a train and got off at a random stop to explore. I will never forget it.

6. Science is my favorite subject. I love learning about the human body and how it works. I like learning about the pharmacokinetics of drugs and how they are processed in the body. I also think blood is extremely interesting. I like to spin it in a centrifuge and watch the blood separate into plasma and the red blood cells. I know some people would think this is weird but all the lab geeks and nurses out there would understand.

Well these are just some facts about little ol me. Now I have to tag 6 people. I tag Sarah Morris, Karene Hoopes, Kim Hansen, Gina Anderson, Collette Mortenson and Brittney Elmer. Be sure to tell the people you tagged that you tagged them!

Halloween!!!

Well we have had alot of fun this Halloween season. We decided to carve pumpkins.....maybe a little too early but we got them carved and that is all that matters. Hans thinks it is fun to eat the insides of the pumpkin as a joke which I find to be really disgusting. We carved our pumpkins with our really cool neighbors...the Dicksons. We also went to a really fun Halloween party last night and Hans and I dressed up as a fork and a spoon as you can tell by the pictures. We actually won 3rd place in the costume contest. We had soooo much fun making the costumes. Notice the use of duct tape in our costumes. Hans is the crafty one of the family. We hope you all have a very fun (and candy filled) Halloween!!

Football Fun

Well last weekend Hans found tickets for us to go to the Utah vs. Louisville game. We first went to the tailgate party with Jon and Janelle that was hosted by the dental school (we always go for free food) and then we went to the game. My roommate from college, Catherine, and her husband came down from Bloomington to join us in the fun. We will forgive Jon for rooting for the Utes (boo Utes). I have realized that I cannot focus on a football game for more than a half because I get too distracted by all the people so I was glad when Catherine and Jon came so we could chat and giggle (yes we still act like we are in college). We loved going to the game even though it was soooooooo hot and humid. Since when it is 90 degrees at night in October?? This Canadian is certainly not used to this kind of weather. Go Cards!!

New Blog

Well this is my first attempt at blogging. It seems as though I cannot fit in this "techno-savvy" world without making a blog. Well life here in Louisville, KY is great. Hans is doing really well in dental school and really loves it (he loves it so much he wears his special glasses and dentures around. haha). I am busy with work as a Pediatric Research Nurse, being YW President, running 3-4 times a week and scrapping as much as possible. I also find time to spend with some really great friends we have made. We bought a house when we first moved here and it was the best decision we have made. We love it. I feel like a "real" person now with my own house. We spent some time this summer in Canada, which was Hansis first time there in the summer. We had the best time. well that is all for now. Happy blogging.
